Knitted dog sweaters can be very expensive to purchase, and they might not always fit properly. When it comes to sweaters for dogs, try custom made knits.

This is a basic pattern for a dog sweater to knit. The pattern is designed for a 40 pound, 18 inch long dog. To adjust the pattern to fit a different-size dog, take the following measurements: neck circumference, back length, width (measured around the body just behind the front legs), front leg circumference, length from next to the front legs, the space between the front legs, and the space from the outer edge of the right leg to the outer edge of the left leg. Then, use the gauge, which is 14 stitches and 20 rows equaling 4 inches, to adjust the pattern to fit the dog.
