These simple crochet coasters and placemats can be made quickly and easily using cotton yarn.
These simple, round coasters and placemats can be made by beginners to crochet or can be a quick, easy project for experts. Make the coasters, the placemats, or both. They can be made with any worsted weight cotton yarn, although the pictured placemat and coaster were made with mercerized cotton for an extra smooth, shiny effect.
Materials
- Worsted Weight Cotton Yarn (200 grams makes 2 placemats and 4 coasters)
- Size J – 10 Crochet Hoot
- Yarn Needle
Abbreviations for This Pattern
- Ch Chain
- SS Slip Stitch
- R Round
- DC Double Crochet
- SC Single Crochet
Instructions for Coasters
- Ch 4. Join with SS to form a ring.
- R1: Ch 3. 13 DC in ring. Join with SS to top of Ch 3.
- R2: Ch 3. 1 DC in same space as Ch 3. 2 DC in each DC around. Join with SS to top of Ch 3.
- R3: Ch 3. 1 DC in same space as Ch 3. 2 DC in each DC around. Join with SS to top of Ch 3.
- Bind off. Sew in loose ends with yarn needle.
- Repeat for as many coasters as desired.

Variations
For variations on these projects, try making striped placemats or coasters by alternating colors for each round or creating a pattern with different colored cotton yarn. Another idea is to use two coordinating colors and make two coasters in each color.
